Open source data mesh platform. New team. Shape the role you want; platform, data sci/ML, web apps, automation

Role overview

Telicent is hiring a back-end engineer to help design and implement our groundbreaking open source data mesh platform.

Our platform enables customers to extricate themselves from architectural patterns that stifle change. We achieve this by unlocking applications from each other and removing the friction, using open standards. This solves significant interoperability issues for organisations with complex data needs, creating freedom for adaptability, innovation, new integrations and progress.

To accelerate customer engagement and innovation we're also building beautiful platform-native knowledge and ML-driven analysis web apps and a no/low code environment that will leverage the power of the platform.

It's an event sourcing architecture, built with resilience and performance in mind. The work entails plenty of interesting architecture, data science, design, security, integration and scaling considerations. We can offer as much support, mentoring and autonomy as you need while you get to grips with the domain and our evolving tech stack. https://github.com/Telicent-io

You'll be encouraged to explore responsibilities, to grow, and to maintain a healthy curiosity for back-end and data tech and for finding better ways of working with software. We'll also meet up regularly for pairing, workshops, engineering discussions, team get-togethers etc.

A flavour of upcoming work

  • Building an enterprise-grade platform, integrated with web apps
  • Enabling fault tolerant operation for continuous availability
  • Building a high security data system for important data
  • Creating data enhancement components to map data and events into business models
  • Optionally, helping build data and deployment pipelines
  • Optionally, helping shape and apply ML and novel data science approaches
  • Optionally, helping establish DevOps methods, seeing features through to production

Qualities and skills sought

  • Someone building upon foundational back-end skills accrued in industry, now ready for a deeper engineering challenge
  • Wanting to work in open communities - our 'CORE' platform will be open source
  • Technology agnostic, comfortable with change and autonomy
  • A proficiency with one of Python, Java and/or Go
  • Wanting to work with event streaming (e.g. Apache Kafka)
  • An understanding of distributed, asynchronous or event-sourcing system principles - or similar
  • An ability to unpack complex requirements, to uphold security of sensitive data and to conform to best practises
  • A collaborative, adaptable, user-centred approach
  • A good understanding of software engineering principles

Current ecosystem - we'll help you get up to speed

Python, Java, Go | Apache Kafka | GraphQL | AWS CloudFormation | Apache Jena | RDF | machine learning | Github workflow and actions | Lightweight Kanban

Salary and benefits

  • £60,000 - £80,000+ we're keeping an open mind
  • EMI share scheme
  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays + can carry over 13 days
  • A company that values work-life balance, personal development and sustainable workloads
  • Flexible working, the hours that suit you (daily stand-up 9:30am)
  • Optional part time working - let us know what you need
  • Online learning budget, encouraged to attend talks, conferences
  • Fast MacBook Pro/machine, plus support on home office costs, bandwidth etc.
  • Regular team socials and outings, within work hours or time in lieu
